Lina Mkoji

Lina Mkoji is a knowledgeable and dedicated professional with experience in hospitality, tourism, aviation, events management and student network leadership roles. She is passionate about building partnerships, volunteering, community outreach and projects focusing on women and youth empowerment, specifically in education and entrepreneurship. Additionally, she is quite keen on climate action and enhancing effective participation and influence of African youth in climate policy and decision-making processes while leveraging their ideas to explore climate solutions, opportunities and innovation in the continent.

Focusing on the climate action path of her career, she is the interim Strong Climate Champions Global Coordinator at SUNx Malta – an EU-based not-for-profit organisation that supports Travel & Tourism stakeholders to build climate resilience in line with SDGs and Paris Agreement. Her main role is to develop Climate Friendly Travel (CFT) country programs involving a network of Strong Climate Champions who have taken the CFT Diploma or 5-day training course, and key tourism stakeholders such as government, local communities, industry, academia, media, youth, NGOs, etc. The overall objective is to develop and implement projects that advance a CFT culture and work towards a green and clean future for the tourism sector and the millions of livelihoods that depend on it.

Lina is an ardent tourism professional, sustainability enthusiast and entrepreneur. She holds a Hospitality and Tourism Management (BSc) from Kenyatta University in Nairobi; a joint European Master in Tourism Management (MSc) from the University of Southern Denmark, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and University of Girona (Spain); and a Climate Friendly Travel Diploma (the world’s first course dedicated to Tourism & Climate Resilience), facilitated by SUNx Malta at the Institute of Tourism Studies (Malta).

Her professional achievements include working for Kenya Airways PLC at management level; being awarded the Erasmus Mundus Masters and Climate Friendly Diploma scholarships; and collaborating with higher education institutions, EU Delegations to several countries in Eastern Africa and international organisations such as Save the Children Somaliland, CARE Somalia; Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Somalia to promote higher education and training opportunities in Europe.
