Irene Mwaura is a project officer-climate change and energy at WWF-Kenya where she supports mainstreaming and implementation of climate change and energy interventions in partnership with different non-state and state actors. Her experience spans over seven years. She has supported policy advocacy at national and sub-national level. In particular supporting Bomet County to develop her climate change policy and Narok County to ensure public participation. At national level, she has been involved in the development of the National Climate Change Learning Strategy and the revision of the Nationally Determined Contribution where in collaboration with other stakeholders advocated for the inclusion of mangroves. She has also supported the development of climate change adaptation strategy for Tsavo and Amboseli ecosystems. Irene passionately supports improved wellbeing of communities by supporting them to become more resilient to climate change impacts, ensuring they have access to clean and affordable energy and are empowered to contribute to conservation of natural resources. Currently, Irene is leading the implementation of a project titled ‘Voices for Climate Action’.
