Kiplagat holds Bsc. in environmental conservation and natural resources management from University of Nairobi. His technical expertise which spans seven years includes; designing and implementing community managed climate change adaptation and mitigation measures and natural resource management interventions, improving community livelihoods through green enterprises and jobs, climate finance, policy engagement on natural resource management and climate change and, environmental impact assessment and audit. Kiplagat has interest in catalyzing youth action in environmental conservation and climate change discourse and is an active member of YOUNGO, the official youth constituency to UNFCCC, and Youths for SDGs Kenya. At the same time, he supported development of a handbook on climate change and environmental conservation for environmental clubs in schools.
Kiplagat is a licensed associate Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit expert, an active member of Environment Institute of Kenya and a qualified trainer of trainers for UN REDD+ Academy. His immediate last assignment was at Lifeskills Promoters where he supported Bomet, Kisii and Kisumu counties to mainstream climate change into county development and enact county climate change legislations with anchored county climate change fund mechanism. Kiplagat is currently working on his thesis for masters in climate change and adaptation at the University of Nairobi with focus on analyzing small holder farmers’ decision making process regarding uptake of weather index insurance.
