Dr. Dan Bondi Ogolla

Dan Bondi Ogolla obtained his Ph.D. in Law from the Centre for International & Comparative Law, University of Bordeaux I, France, in 1991. He also holds the LL.B. (Hons) (1978) and LL.M. (1980) Degrees from the University of Nairobi. Dr. Bondi Ogolla taught at the University of Nairobi School of Law from 1983 to 1992 rising to the position of Senior Lecturer in the Department of Public Law. His main courses were environmental law, land law and labour law. He joined UNEP in 1993 as Legal Officer responsible for UNEP’s technical assistance programme to developing countries and countries with economies in transition in the field of environmental policy, law and institutions. He was Legal Adviser at the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (Montreal, Canada) from 1999 to 2006; Chief Legal Adviser at UNFCCC (Bonn, Germany) from 2007 to 2012; and Director of Legal Affairs & principal Legal Adviser at UNFCCC from 2013 to 2016.
Dr. Bondi Ogolla is a member of the International Council of Environmental Law, the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law, the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Wildlife Law & Policy, and the Kenya National Academy of Sciences. He is published in the fields of environmental law, trade and environment, and land tenure.
